This course is the introductory materials engineering course here at Purdue largely taken by Sophomores in the MSE degree program and Sophomores/Juniors from other engineering degrees. I was responsible for two recitation sections, delivering weekly sessions to expand upon the lecture content. My sessions focused on contextualizing the theory in real-world application and reinforcing problem solving through tailored problem sets. I also wrote bi-weekly quizzes to assess student understanding and contributed to question writing for midterms and the final exam.

This course is centered around a series of guest lecturers from across the sports industry (academics, founders, international federations, athletes). I aided in identifying, sequencing, and hosting these speakers for both in-person and virtual lectures. I also developed rubrics for the course assignments to provide students with more structured and clear feedback. The culminating project of this course is a business plan and pitch deck for a proposed sports engineering startup. During this process I had dialogue with students to narrow the scope of their projects and served as a sounding board for their excellent ideas. For the fall 2026 section I have designed a new assignment to give students the opportunity to analyze in/effective presentation techniques to implement in their own pitches.

Since I began my graduate studies at Purdue I have had at least one undergraduate research mentee every semester. These students earn course credit for contributions to research projects at the Ray Ewry Sports Engineering Center. While these projects have largely contributed to my thesis, I make an effort for students to take ownership over a certain set of experiments or section of the project. In some cases these projects have been standalone or supported other lab initiatives.
